In September 2016, Steven obtained a $241,000 verdict in Clackamas County against a State Farm insured who crashed into a 40-year-old wife and mother of three young boys on I-205 while the State Farm insured was driving while distracted by her cell phone.
We are gladdened and encouraged by the Clackamas County jury’s ability to understand our client’s severe damages, and compensate her accordingly. We are also very proud of being able to help set a community standard against driving while distracted. Studies show that distracted driving can be just as, if not more dangerous than, driving under the influence of intoxicants. Drivers need to be aware of the foreseeable danger to others (and themselves) when they drive while distracted.
State Farm has appealed for the reason that State Farm did not want the jury to know that its insured was driving while distracted. We will continue to fight for the rights of our client and we expect that we, and justice, will prevail.
